Snow 2026 ~ Finding Stillness
Winter arrived at the farmhouse!
Thankfully, we avoided the ice storm and received mostly snow. As it covered everything like a soft blanket it brought with it a peaceful quietness that almost commanded stillness.
This is my rooster's, Reuben, first time to experience snow. At first he did not want to come out of the coop. He would step out with one foot and as soon as it touched the snow he would draw it back up into the coop. Finally, he decided to go for it and hopped out into the snow.
The second morning of the snow there was a heavy fog and we were under a frozen fog warning. I don't believe I have ever heard of such. after the fog disappeared there was the fluffy, thick, frost covering all the trees. It was truly beautiful!
It wasn't a lot of snow compared to what most are used to getting that gets more winter weather than us down here in Texas, but the 3.8 inches of snow was pretty just the same.
In our area the least bit of snow or ice creates a mess because nothing is designed for super cold temperatures or hazardous road conditions. The cold temperatures dipped down to 0 degrees Fahrenheit one night. After we got through the week of winter weather we are back up into the 70's this week. Lol. I always tell people that we have mild winters we only get about one or two weeks of winter weather, and it's not even an exaggeration! I am not complaining though. That's actually probably enough for me. Lol
The longhorns, Lily and Daisy, enjoyed the snow, too, I think. They were acting up, playfully, When they weren't enjoying their hay bale.
Finding Stillness
My favorite part about the cold, snowy, days was keeping the fire going, getting cozy, and taking in the beautiful snowy scene through the windows.
We had lots of bird visitors! I keep feed out for them year round and I was sure to not let them run out while it was so cold.
There was one particular little feathered friend that stayed perched on the porch rocker most of the time that we had snow. It looked to be peering through the window. I would have brought him or her inside if I could.
